Barricade Deceives Installed on Doors in an Educational Facility

PROBLEM

An educational facility was seeking a solution to install barricade devices on doors inside the classroom, to prevent entry in the event of an active shooter incident. During a sales call, a DH Pace sales representative discovered the solution they were pursuing would be against code regulation and could cause unintentional safety consequences for children inside the classroom.

SOLUTION

DH Pace’s Compliance Services Group compiled code research to guide the customer to a code-compliant solution using cylindrical and mortise locks that meet egress requirements of NFPA 101.
